Indeed some of our existing NURBS/BREP infrastructure would definitely be of 
great use here.  They're used to evaluate trimming curves in the 2D u/v domain 
of NURBS surfaces during raytracing and are carved up similarly to what I 
described.  You'd have to promote/convert the Bezier curves to NURBS curves, 
but that isn't difficult.  Might even be an existing openNURBS routine to do it 
for you.
