Hi Sean,
That does indeed make sense and looks quite simple! However, I'm not quite
seeing how this would work cleanly with an arbitrary contour--such as a
bezier spline--in that the sampling you allude to would have to be done for
the entire shape, not simply the segment that you're chopping up.
That is, let's say some curve connects points A and B, and you decide to
divide this curve up with n horizontal and thus n vertical crossings, then
the number of cells in the the approximated area grows as n^2.
I'm not sure how clear I'm being, perhaps I should sketch something up...
