That's fantastic, but please don't let GSoC slow you down. ;) Our website is a big limitation at the moment since it doesn't do well at attracting new interest. It needs a website manager, a developer dedicated towards making it better and keeping it up to date. MinuteElectron did a good job when the site was first set up and it was a huge improvement, but now it's very old and tired. Numerous issues were fixed by Maths22 during GCI and now with this recent refreshing of the appearance, but it really needs an overhaul. Asking for general advice or recommendations is ... dangerous. Too many chefs or opinions will ruin a recipe. As for requirements, these come to mind: * must incorporate one or both of our new logos prominently (e.g., http://brlcad.org/images/mac_239x256.png) * must work on all common desktop and mobile interface * must be simple to extend/maintain (e.g., one set of css files) * must define and stick to a web-safe color theme (that works with logo) * must define a unified theme/appearance (regardless of infrastructure, separate dev section ok) * must support our existing website data Additional considerations (but not technically requirements): * current site is drupal+mediawiki+gallery so will need extensive export/import work if using anything else * http://brlcad.org/wiki/TOC * useful GCI mockups: * http://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2012/7958235 * http://www.google-melange.com/gci/task/view/google/gci2012/8099209 * GCI task descriptions contain examples of nice 3rd party sites > Stagnant water is always dirty, keep moving, keep improving. Very relevant. ;) Cheers!
