He said, moving / animating the geometry around is not enough for
engineering purposes. An ideal software should be capable to explain
the complexity behind it. However, web 3D is currently in infancy, so
it will happen gradually but not in single shot. :) That's why,
current purpose of our viewer is only to visualize geometry.

However, I am not very much clear about complexity right now.

Actually, I was expecting to use this interface as it is. This
interface has features that are more relevant to an editor (content
creation software), but as Sean suggested, focus of this project
should be viewer rather than content creation (i.e. editor) and
removing irrelevant features may take lot of time. So, now I will be
focusing on making a minimal new web interface for this project.

Exactly, I planned to continue this project in three phases:

1 Implement basic working support.
2. Add nice looking GUI.
3. Adding advanced features.

I keep phase 1 and 2 within the scope of this GSoC project. Phase 3
after GSoC (may be started within GSoC project).
