I'm usually okay with a source-only releases known to not compile on one or two 
platforms.  Given this will likely be the version used for GCI, I can push the 
RELEASE branch through a Windows compilation test and get it working.  I'll do 
that this week.

Agree, but note that 7.24.2 will get generated off of RELEASE, not trunk.  The 
new release paradigm is "fix or remove" once a sync to RELEASE is made.  The 
current state of that branch is from a sync made over a month ago, so it 
doesn't have most of the recent instabilities.
