Hi Gabriela,
Welcome, I am one of the mentors for STEPcode for BRL-CAD.   Expanding on
the project ideas can be a narrowing of the scope or further elaborating
the function.   For instance, import is better to start with than export
for a new capability like supporting additional schemas such as 214 and
242.   For these schemas, focusing on additional support like STEP
assemblies and external (nested) references would be useful.   There are
recommended practices for this at www.cax-if.org.
