One remark about gtest (I'm assuming that's googletest? https://code.google.com/p/googletest/) - I don't have any immediate objections to using it, but it will be important to integrate running the tests defined there into the CMake build. There are a number of options for this, but it's something to bear in mind as something that needs to be done.
