GSoCers!
This marks the beginning of the GSoC coding timeframe, so everyone is hopefully
getting busily started with your projects. Please do engage your mentors AND
the other developers as much as possible using this mailing list and IRC. A
few reminders now that we're started:
1) http://brlcad.org/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code/Checklist
Particularly 9 through 18! If there are ANY of those that you have not
completed by now, they are your #1 priority... It's rather upsetting when we
have to hunt someone down for simple things that are explicitly itemized for
everyone's convenience. Once you get through the first 18 checklist items, get
started on your project doing #19 and #20.
2) Code setup. Everyone should have built BRL-CAD et al and set up web roots
by now. If you're having trouble getting set up, talk to your mentor and ask
for suggestions. Those of you working on web projects doing your own private
hosting are going to need to stop playing in a sandbox.
Our code development expectations apply to everyone, so you need to ensure your
development activity is happening in the open, that you're actively discussing
your project, that your repo is not a personal one, that your code complies
with our conventions, that you're listening to your mentors. I may reach out
to people individually to address concerns, but most of this is covered in #10
( http://brlcad.org/wiki/Summer_of_Code/Expectations ).
3) Update your dev log! This is really a critical part of participating in
GSoC. Summarize your activity in a meaningful way every day in just one or two
sentences. Succinct, concise, informative. Showcase what you learn, what
problems you're having, and what progress you make. See prior year logs for
examples.
Cheers!
Sean
