Hello,
I came across the GSoC Project Idea concerning materials web database (
http://brlcad.org/wiki/Materials_Database
(http://brlcad.org/wiki/Materials_Database)). Here are some guidelines I
would follow (if I would be accepted):
- Build web database on Drupal (except I know how to work with it, there are
other reasons below)
- Take your preliminary database and convert it to Drupal (each material as
a one drupal node)
- Use Drupals ability of user managament, so certain users would be allowed
to add materials, add tags to them and so on
- Use Drupals search engine so user can make his own material database for
download (I assume in .density file syntax)
- Make the website live on URL materials.brlcad.org (btw: what happenned to
http://more.brlcad.org/(http://more.brlcad.org/)? Why don't we revive it as
a models.brlcad.org)
And one more thing I would add to materials database, not only on the web,
but also in brlcad itself: default shader for each material. It would be
nice if copper pipe would look like a copper by default and later you can
virtually paint to green or whatever color you like. Well this is far beyond
my abilities, just an idea...
If you think this is acceptable, I can send a GSoC application.
With regards
Pavel Jansa aka pawleeq
