I've sketched up a solution to this by integrating the volume form:

after first applying a couple transforms to make the cylinder behave
nicely. I'll type it up for you as close to pseudocode as I can manage
later this evening, so that you can translate it into C without having to
worry about the actual mathematics--this is not an easy problem!
In the meantime, I'll simply tack another 48 hours on the clock for you to
act as a placeholder.
