Tom,

There are very few restrictions on redistribution imposed by the LGPL [1], none
of which are specific to commercial products. From memory, the requirements
for redistribution are basically:

  1) any modified files must carry a prominent notice stating when/what was
changed
  2) BRL-CAD itself must be freely available (though you can charge reasonable
fees for distribution, copying, and warranty protection)
  3) if you distribute in binary form, you must offer equivalent access to a
copy of the source code from the same place
  4) you cannot impose any additional restrictions on that redistribution of
BRL-CAD

Things are a little more complicated if you link static, so I would recommend
just using dynamic/shared library linkage too. One issue being that the user
should be able to update or apply patches to the BRL-CAD you used and have your
tool use the updated version.

Basically, if you have something that links against BRL-CAD and you want to
bundle it in as part of some other product, that's perfectly acceptable. You
just have to make the source code to BRL-CAD available for the version that was
bundled in.

Cheers!
Sean
