If anyone is feeling ambitious, that simple gear example would make for a great replication tutorial up on the wiki. Same to you, Pal, if you wanted write a tutorial (using your cog images instead) while you learn it. There are already a bunch of tutorials at http://brlcad.org/wiki/ ( such as http://brlcad.org/wiki/Lighting ) where it would fit in perfectly.
