Hello, because I've got a problem with Ubuntu too, I'm sending it to this thread.
I have installed Ubuntu Linux on my notebook. And as for my Braille display it just shows : A startup problem But I found today once it started to run. At the beginning it showed the same error but then I found out it runs. But I did nothing to start it. I restarted the computer but it just showed the error. I have tried to do the same things as in last session. So I run some command as root(using sudo), then I tried restart BRLTTY(/et/init.d/brltty restart) but nothing happened. Before I had Gentoo Linux and I used console only and it always run correctly. It is BRLTTY 3.7. I've got Alva Satellite with USB. I know it is quite difficult to say something about it because the description of a problem is really uncertain. But would like to ask if there is some log file for BRLTTY to look in. Also have found it is not possible to compile my C programs on Ubuntu because gcc cannot find the header files. But don't think it has any connection with BRLTTY problems. Anyway I liked Gentoo much more :-) Thank you very much Jan Mura [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Olivier BERT" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 25, 2008 6:20 PM Subject: [BRLTTY] xbrlapi on Ubuntu 8.04 Hi, I installed Ubuntu 8.04 a few days ago and since that, xbrlapi doesn't work properly. When a type a 'a' on the braille keyboard for example, it outputs a 'q' in the X applications, as if xbrlapi didn't make the appropriate conversion it usually makes when using a non-US keyboard. As I don't remember exactly when I updated my brltty SVN trunk for the last time, the problem could also be due to a recent change in the xbrlapi source code, even if I am pretty sure that the problem occured after the update of my Ubuntu system. I know that Samuel had patched xbrlapi about one year ago to introduce a mechanism allowing to resolve a brltty keycode to an X keysym for non-US keyboard layouts, and it wolked perfectly until now. I really don't know anything about X11 so I haven't tried to debug things myself. So just tell me what I have to do to help you investigating this issue. Thanks for your help Samuel and others, -- Olivier BERT Tél: (+33)(0)6 07 69 79 71 _______________________________________________ This message was sent via the BRLTTY mailing list.
