While voiceover on the Mac supports many braille displays, I don't find it as
easy to navigate in terminal that way as with brltty. Also I can read brf files
easily using brltty in terminal where trying to read brf files in Text Edit on
the Mac gives me extra linefeed characters and such which make reading the brf
files on the Mac not an optimal experience imo.

As for compiling on the Mac using speech and voiceover, you have to do some
interacting and moving to the bottom of the screen in terminal and then working
backwards to see your results but it is possible to compile in terminal with
speech albeit it's much easier once you have brltty installed. Also it's
possible to run a compiling command and send the output to a file so that when
it's done you can just open the file and see whether the command succeeded or
had errors.
Remember that you will have to run brltty in screen. Also if your braille
display is being recognized by voiceover you probably have to turn voiceover
off when running brltty in terminal; as far as I know there isn't a way to make
brltty and voiceover's braille to play nicely together, as in using voiceover
on the rest of the Mac and brltty in terminal.
