That should generally work fine. An alternative, if you have brltty 5.4,
would be to specify api-parameters auth=polkit in brltty.conf. This will
tell brltty to let polkit decide whether the user should have access to
the Braille display, rather than using brlapi.key (the default policy
gives access to the user logged in locally but not to a user logged in
remotely).
