That's exactly my point, and is what I think I've been saying all day
long...

The argument given for why -f was needed for create-interface was that
there was a perceived requirement that plumbing needed to be done by
create-interface, and that -f would tell it what to plumb.  My
counter-argument was that there is no such requirement, and therefore
there is no need for -f.
