The "connected" icon really reflects the "RUNNING" status of the interface. You're right, in that virtual interfaces should not typically have this set, but in the world of Vanity naming (see http://opensolaris.org/os/project/clearview/uv/), you can't (and should not need to) actually know whether the interface is virtual or not, so in the interest of consistency we have the Status tab. > comprehensive listing of what states each interface type can be in, but > maybe a third icon for "configured, but not working" is needed? > - Some of the devices have their Enabled checkbox disabled.
