The "connected" icon really reflects the "RUNNING" status of the interface.
You're right, in that virtual interfaces should not typically have this
set, but in the world of Vanity naming (see 
http://opensolaris.org/os/project/clearview/uv/), you can't (and should not
need to) actually know whether the interface is virtual or not, so 
in the interest of consistency we have the Status tab.

Not sure what example Jenya had in mind when she put this together- 
can you clarify?

Edit is roughly the same as 'dladm show-<linktype>'  (show-ether in this
case). "Properties  Settings" corresponds to "{get, set}-linkprop".
