I never understood the interest in conical bottoms. The yeast is (supposed
to be) flocculating to the bottom of the container, and one should avoid
raking that into a secondary fermenter, keg, bottle, or where ever the beer
is going next. Leaving behind a conical shaped pile of yucky stuff seems
slightly more difficult than leaving behind a flat layer of sediment on top
of a level bottom. Besides, I would expect that one could get a fair
approximation of a conical bottom by tilting a cylidrical container some 15
degrees to the left. (the exact geometry is left as an exercise to the
reader ;-)
