this is unfortunate.  Of course you could try to fix libtool-1.5
for Cygwin, but you know better that I whether it's easy or not.

Another alternative would be to use development libtool (1.9.x or
the CVS version) on Cygwin.  You might have to upgrade Autoconf
and Automake for that, but that shouldn't be diffucult on Cygwin:
first, you build CVS Autoconf (or Autoconf 2.59b) and install it;
then you build CVS version of Automake.
