There are these proposed patches for https://savannah.gnu.org/support/index.php?111272 https://savannah.gnu.org/support/index.php?111273 that allow distros to use 'autoreconf' in their packages, when GNU gettext 0.23.2, 0.24.2, 0.25.1, 0.26 or newer is installed. (Without these patches, Debian encountered build failures in more than 200 packages [1].) I will revise them tomorrow, to enable compatibility with older gettext releases, as requested [2], and then I would like to ask for a re-review and inclusion.
