This does not seem to happen for me:
% cat add.s
.text
add R4, R5
add R4, R4
addc R4, R5
addc R4, R4
% msp430-as add.s -o add.o
% msp430-objdump -d add.o
add.o: file format elf32-msp430
Disassembly of section .text:

0: 05 54 add r4, r5 ;
2: 04 54 rla r4 ;
4: 05 64 addc r4, r5 ;
6: 04 64 rlc r4 ;
Could it be that this problem has already been fixed ?
