So I think in addition to what my patch did the following also needs solving:
* if a __start symbol is supposed to be created, then it should be created!
  (i.e. not merely use some random other symbol coming from some dyn-object)
* possibly the create-copy-relocs from protected symbols needs adjustments
  to ignore start/stop symbols, though the above item should already make
  it so that this path isn't entered anymore.
