This looks like a kernel bug to me.
binutils commit 9573a461da1, "MIPS/opcodes: Accurately record coprocessor
opcode CPU/ISA membership" notes:
- remove the RFE instruction from MIPS III[6] and MIPS32[7] up, as it
has been removed as from those ISAs in favour to ERET,
I checked some mips isa references and this particular change looks correct.
