That should not be possible.  The invocation of the package commands  
was unchanged in any released version.  Please provide documentation  
of this.

Absolutely not.  Putting Portage specific code into do.c is  
nonsense.  That's what package.c is for.  Instead of making patches  
that break out the local-os problems into the main code base, why  
don't you document the problem and what needs to be solved instead?
