By taking a deep breath, relaxing, and ignoring all of the complicated
set-up code at the beginning of sanity.sh.  Once you get to the actual
tests (look for "The big loop"), things are pretty obvious:  For each
test, there's usually a cvs command and one or two "patterns" (they're
mostly literal text, but they may contain regular expressions) that the
output is supposed to match.

Note that I've already made the changes for the history change, so this
is just guidance for the future.
