You're not the first -- there have been a number of different proposals
for adding a similar capability. Unfortunately, the proponents never
quite agreed on exactly how it should work. There used to be a web page
that contained a number of different proposed patches and some
discussion, but once again it got lost (or at least made inaccessible)
in the Cyclic/SourceGear transition. I'd suggest starting a discussion
on info-cvs to get input from other users.
