No, it's some kind of internal error in inetd -- it's not the cause of your problem. Again, you need to look for messages from CVS itself, not messages from inetd. And check to see if your system has an AUTH_PRIV facility -- if so, the log messages for it usually go to a special log file that only root can read since they contain security-related information.
