Hi, I'm new to HDD recovery so do bear with my ignorance of disk geometry and partitioning. Reading the ddrescue man and info pages and looking at examples online, this is my story:
Dead disk: Seagate SATA 250GB (/dev/sda1) Recovery disk: Seagate PATA 250GB (/dev/hda2) The dead disk was a single partition NTFS volume. Used fdisk to partition the rescue disk with the same headers and sector/track (16,64) and ran mkntfs on it. After confirming with cfdisk that the headers and sectors/track matched, I ran: ddrescue -r3 -v /dev/sda1 /dev/hda2 /tmp/logfile It finished imaging the entire drive with zero errors, the logfile is below: # Rescue Logfile. Created by GNU ddrescue version 1.2 # pos size status 0x00000000 0x3A38A00000 + When I run ntfsfix on it, it tells me the FS is corrupted. Loading the rescue disk under Windows tells me that it needs a format. This has happened a bunch of times, what am I doing wrong?
