AFAICS there's no way to have directory names with spaces in the mentioned paths. Shall we define one?
I'm generally in favour. If we make a change here I'd prefer to make one we can live with for years than a change that seems like a good compromise but doesn't really solve the problem. If we need an incompatible change, we should be brave enough to make it, but let's just do it once :) One possibility might be to be able to say --prunepath=A and --prunepath=B in order to have paths A and B both pruned. (Note this option name is differene to --prunepaths). But feel free to think up a well-engineered alternative to what we have now. If we engineer a good updatedb programinterface, we can always leave the option of making a separate compatibility shim for people not yet willing to change their command lines.
