IMHO this is a bug in gcc. gcc 2.95.x and egcs-2.91.x (and maybe
some others) generate erroneous debug info for function prologues
on alpha's. Additionally the alpha ports of gdb 4.16, .. 4.18 are
not up to date.
... and I think there is no one on earth using gcc-2.95/gdb-4.1[78]
in a serious production environment since (despite of the bug being
reported some times) not any one seems to be going to fix it.
