Thanks for your interest and sorry for my late reply.

Norbert's answer is correct. 'nps' is not supported by GNU Chess. Whenever
a command is not recognised, the program will try to interpret it as a
move. That is why you see 'invalid move' in the output. Hence, it is not an
error.
