FWIW, I found a reference to this subject in the r.g.b. archive: http://www.bkgm.com/rgb/rgb.cgi?view+1079
It seems that Douglas Zare wrote about it on GammonVillage (pay-site that I don't have access to); quoting Tom Keith: In his article on early-late ratio, Douglas Zare offers the following suggestion for how you can relate the early-late ratio to actual play. "The [Snowie] early-late ratio tells you roughly what fraction of doubles should be passed in nongammonish positions. That is, roughly 1/3 of initial doubles should be passed, while 1/2 of the redoubles should be passed." So, gammons might change these numbers I guess. -- Robert-Jan Veldhuizen (Zorba on FIBS)
