I've just done a sample rollout with the two different versions of the code and
the version with windows threading code is 1.6% faster than the glib threading
version.
I'm reluctant to remove the windows code when it's this much faster. Maybe
someone else can try a test as well, I just did one 10 minute rollout on a 8
core machine.
