From the perspective of Apple - they don't see PPC as relevant anymore.
The fact that Snow Leopard dropped all support for PPC architectures is
a testament to that.
If you ask IBM, their Power series of servers are still alive and well.
Would replicating the SSE code and transcribing it to Altivec useful
or just a waste of time ? (assuming it's relatively straightforward,
if not I suppose the answer is the latter :-).
I don't know if it would be straightforward or not, but if it were a
heavy undertaking I would not say it has enough relevance to be bothered
with at this time.
