Hi Dan, You're far from the first person with this issue.
Chequers must go on the far side of the board, away from the players home table. There is only a limited active area they will go, between the centre of the board and the hinge. You should be able to add chequers using the mouse, or by dragging them from the bear-off tray. When I only set up 14 checkers, it assumed it was borne off, not on the bar. When I clicked on the bar, it just gave me an error beep. I will keep trying til I hear from you... Thanks!
