Hello! I think the gnu backgammon version in the ubuntu/mint program packages must have been compiled badly in some way, because it's very very slow compared to the windows version. Running the windows version in the Wine emulator on the same Linux on the same computer is about 5 times faster on evaluation than the native ubuntu version!
