Right. I prefer canonical URLs too, also for lists.gnu.org URLs. The only moment I prefer short URLs is when typing an URL on a device with a limited UI (smartphone); but then I wouldn't type the "https://" part either. I gave up on using ftpmirrors.gnu.org URLs in the announcements already several years ago, after noticing that the URL it recommended for me in Germany was one of a company in the advertising business (which has the same ethical problems as facebook.com or x.com).
