Follow-up Comment #1:
Sounds like just improper configuration ... --without-config-file is not an
option we allow, just something autoconf puts in. However, I've chchanged
the configure script so that it should treat --without-config-file as if the
user had just not specified a config file.
It would be nice if we could check that, when a file is specified, it is
actually a legal path, but I guess that's not worth the effort.
