The man page and info manual for grep use the word "subfile" in just one place: the documentation for --exclude.
It's not clear what a "subfile" is. (I wonder if it comes from the original source for this documentation, which appears to be tar, though I can't find any occurrence of the word "subfile" in the current documentation for GNU tar either.) -- Web: rrt.sc3d.org
