In general, default values should be reasonable, and users should be able to
assume that they can safely use the defaults unless they have reason to
override them. Thus it's well worth pointing out in the documentation that ms
defaults to 11/12 solely for back compatibility, but that this value matches
no real-world typesetting practice. For conventional typesetting the user
should set this value to 1.
