OK, that could be phrased more tactfully than what I wrote.
11/12 is such an idiosyncratic default that I have to wonder about its
origins. One coder's personal preference that he didn't realize would remain
enshrined into law four decades on? A requirement for a specific journal? A
practical joke gotten out of hand?
The story of how it then got corrupted to 5/6 must be equally compelling.
History Channel should do a special.
