  You use pkglib_DATA for stage1, stage1.5 and stage2, but DATA is for
architecture-independent files, and shouldn't be installed in
libdir. I think these should be installed in libexecdir, or an
user-defined directory, say, grubdir.

  And, this is not a bug, but AC_PROG_INSTALL in the configure.in file
is redundant because AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE will call it automatically.

  By the way, autoconf seems to have a bug that AC_OUTPUT_MAKE_DEFS
can't deal with any macro that has arguments, but the configure script
has been fixed. Did you modify it manually, or did you write a patch
for the bug?
