Sorry about that. (I really do know how to report bugs, I must've just
been in a hurry when I did that :\ )
Also, with the new version of Grub (and some tinkering on my part,
which may be more relevant), my original problem is fixed, but I'm still
having problems, so I'll tell you what the new problems are..
I'm using DHCP to acquire an address with the latest Grub, 0.5.95. The DHCP
server is from the Debian "dhcp" package. The commands in question are:
dhcp
root=(nd)
kernel=/usr/local/slave/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/nfs ip=dhcp nfsroot=/usr/local/slave/fs
2
Only the first really matters, though, as Grub hangs there.
The system with the NE2000/PCI is now the one having difficulty; it has an
RT8029 card which *worked* with Grub 0.5.94 (and in fact I'm currently booting
it simply by not upgrading the Grub images) With 0.5.95, it hangs after
detecting the network card and beginning to probe. (it displays, I believe,
"Probing...[NE2000]" or something about like that, and then stops)
(the 3c905 card was partly pilot error; toggling the value of "PnP OS" in
the BIOS fixed it. No such luck for the NE2k card, though :( )
Unfortunately I don't have physical access to the machine again until
Monday, so I can't give you exact details :(
