I think it it a bug in Linux, since your kernel image even cannot
boot itself (using a floppy disk). The error message is exactly the
same:
Uncompressing Linux...
ran out of input data
-- System halted
I haven't tested it with any other boot loader, such as syslinux,
but there should be something wrong in Linux.
