Dear Chris, although I'm not in the developer crew, please go ahead.
I just tried the compiled stuff ... > -----Original Message----- > From: Chris Lingard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2003 10:06 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: Grub & CD > > > On Tuesday 08 July 2003 8:37 am, Treutwein Bernhard wrote: > > Hmm, > > > > there has been the patch to 0.93 by Leonid Lisovskiy > > (see > http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-grub/2003-04/msg00014.html ) > > it compiles ok, but I did not yet find the time to > > try it out ... > > > > the problem is that the BIOS must recognize first that there > > is a bootable CD in the tray and it has to switch to one of > > the El Torito emulation modes: Floppy or HD or no emulation, > > but it might be possible that Leonid's ISO 9660 driver allows > > to dive into the cdrom and chainload into any bootable image > > on the CDROM, even when it is not in an emulation mode. > > > > Someone has to experiment with it ... > > it is not possible to chainload into the CD, when coming from a floppy, GRUB does not recognize the CDROM :-( but that might also be BIOS dependent ... but that might be a smaller patch, but not on my side, I'm not a C guru. But, as far as I understand Leonid's posting, it should work, when having it on a CD in no-emulation mode. See also: http://www.nu2.nu/bootablecd/ about the no-emulation mode although this page is quite heave directed to Redmont and other commercial stuff. PS: Please keep me informed about successes/failures. regards -- > > Bernhard Treutwein, IuK, Ref.
