Recently, I encountered Grub (I needed to install Vine Linux on my PC wth RAID) and found on grub home page that you need NetBSD hacker.
I'm little familiar with BSD boot process (I'm help extending boot loader for BSD/OS for PCMCIA support while ago). And currently using NetBSD on several PCs. Thus, I may or may not help you for NetBSD.
