Hello Adrian,
This indeed seems to address a problem with the same symptoms, in my
case I simply do not use a CD at at all though still get this message.
I don't know enough about grub's internals to know if the two are indeed
the same problem.
I hope your fix corrects my problem, too.

I have also a better patch for this (I believe) in my own patched grub (you
can dig into source code of Super Grub Disk (dev_grub folder)
