Follow-up Comment #2, bug #41005 (project grub):
"grub error: hd1 cannot get C/H/S values"
is rarely about the geometry, it's just one of first calls to recognize the
disk. Most likely BIOS bugs with your second drive.
You can use GRUB native disk drivers by either installing with
--disk-module=native or using command nativedisk before accessing the disk.
Note: with native dirvers disks get renamed to e.g. ahci0 and ahci1
