I think the conclusion of the mailing list discussion I refered to was that
they didn't manage to find the exact cause of the problem.

in my case there seems to be a direct connection between the ties and
phrasing slurs.
i've just installed lilypond-2.10.2-1.
this bug has not yet been fixed.
I found the link - and related - below unhelpful as the info was way
too technical for me.
this problem did not exist in lilypond-2.6.5

My guess is that it has nothing to do with phrasing slurs.
Apparently there is some strange bug related to ties, see
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-lilypond/2006-11/msg00079.html
with followups.

hello,
using lilypond-2.10.1.
big fan.
writing for bigband. ties under phrasingslurs don't appear on the
conductor's score.
on the individual scores there is no problem; ties under
phrasingslurs - sweet.
using exactly the same input coding for individual staves in
conductors score:
eg. input ../alto_sax.ly
... XXXX ! no ties under the phrasingslurs !
didn't have this problem with lilypond-2.6.5 have searched archive
but unable to find anything appropriate.
would someone please direct me to relevant info or give advice.
sincerely,
Greg Rosser
