If it is the case (i've not tested so far), it may be considered as a bug (since sgml/html accepts any number of any "space symbols" before ">", as far as i know). But is it necessary to recognize such cases, really? If You need it, please let me know. Now i would rather consider it as a limitation, and would suggest to mention this in the Notation Reference.
